How do you decide if number plates are cherished or private ? Historically they were called cherished as the transfer procedure was lenghty,expensive and complicated as each registration number had to be removed from an old vehicle. When the dvla entered the marketplace with unissued registrations the purchase and transfer became mush easier, exclusivity was lost and the term private number plates became more common.
